Oh, the Bahamas. It feels like such a lifetime ago that we went on the most fun trip to Nassau, when in reality, it has only been a short two months since we returned. My best friend, Becca & her mama, WON THE TRIP on Ellen’s 12 Days of Giveaways. Isn’t that nuts!? Who gets to say that Ellen freaking Degeneres gifted them a trip to a tropical island and ten thousand star resort?!! My bestie, thats who! My husband and I were the luckiest of all people, because Becca’s sweet and generous as heck mother gifted us her trip. WHAT?!!!? I don’t know what I will ever do to repay her for her generosity, but I have a few ideas on how to start. Anyway, we stayed at the most beautiful resort, which is pretty new, called Baha Mar (linked here). They had about 1000 pools, a casino, 364312 restaurants, and really gorgeous accommodations. I am exaggerating a bit on the pools and restaurants, but it was really a lot! The resort has converted a bunch of airstreams into the cutest food trucks on the beach, has FLAMINGOS for you to admire, and even a sanctuary with a grotto where you can also admire sting rays, nurse sharks, and sea turtles. I can’t even describe how cool that was. We spent our days by the beach and pool, and our afternoons walking next-door to the Daiquiri Shack, which was always well worth it. Who knew that a plum daiquiri was the best flavor ever? You are welcome. Our bahamas dream trip lasted from Sunday to Friday, and I really wanted to gift Becca + Luke a nice set of portraits from our trip, so by Wednesday evening, we had been around the resort enough for me to pick out some lovely portrait locations, and we set out to create some beautiful images. I loved how many different natural backgrounds we were able to get – it really looks like we were at at least 4 different locations, but these were all taken on resort. Here are a few of my favorites!!!
This will probably be the last holiday post I do, since we are now a month post-Christmas, but I just couldn’t resist sharing the Nir Family’s sweet holiday session with you guys. I first met PJ, Zorro, & Sam for baby Sam’s newborn portraits last spring. I was so happy when PJ called me and wanted me to come capture their family for Sam’s first holiday season! I knew he was going to be precious, but I was NOT prepared for just how squishy and adorable he has gotten over the last 7 months! Sam has perfect rolls, a gummy smile, and the coolest eye color I have ever seen on a baby! I met the Nir family at their home to take a few portraits by their Christmas Tree (which was beautiful, by the way!), and then we went out into some pretty scenic areas of their neighborhood to capture some outdoor family portraits of the family. I absolutely loved that PJ wanted me to capture some portraits of just her! I thought she looked so glam and that they turned out beautifully!
My sweet friends, Daniel & Elizabeth, welcomed an even sweeter baby boy into their family about six weeks ago. His name is Rhett, which I love. I was so excited when Elizabeth asked me to photograph him in all of his newborn glory, and I couldn’t respond with a resounding YES quickly enough!!! I spent a couple of hours with Elizabeth & Rhett at their home, and we had so much fun! He was such an awesome baby – he slept for pretty much our entire shoot, making him super easy to work with, but he held out on the smiles until the very end of our time together. We had wrapped up all of his individual portraits and taken some with his mama, and decided to put him in the teeniest cutest red wagon I have ever seen. This was during the holidays (I am so behind, remember!?), so we placed his wagon in front of their Christmas Tree, and I was dying over how sweet he looked when he flashed me the BIGGEST smile! I happened to catch it on camera while squealing, and it was in focus, so it was a true miracle (have you ever tried photographing a newborn while squealing? I do it alot, and things tend to get a little shaky in the focus department! ;)). Here are some of my favorites from his sweet session (note the smile, the fox outfit andddd the bear outfit! It all may be too cute to handle, so proceed with caution!)
I keep saying just how behind I am on updating this space. I really am, and I need to get better about it! I have so many sessions from the holiday season that I haven’t even shared with you yet! I likely wont be able to share all of them, since it would be weird to post about Christmas in August, but hopefully this week I can catch up on some of these fun sessions I had over December and January! Today, I am sharing my favorite images from the sweetest first birthday portrait session. My buddy, Brooks (you may remember him as Chip!), turned one whole big year old in early December, and I was only too happy to go see him and capture all of his sweet squishiness at this age. I had to throw in some portraits of his sweetheart big sister, Brinnley, too! For a look back at how much Brooks has grown, you can check out his newborn session or six-month portraits from this summer! I loved how full of JOY he was at the six month session, but I could not get over how SWEET and cute he is now! See below for all of my faves!
Let me preface this post by letting you know that I am about one million sessions behind on blogging sessions. When I get really busy I find myself saving the blogs for last, and working on the client sessions so I can deliver them and get them off to the happy people I am lucky enough to work with! Today’s session comes allll the way from mid-November, when I got to go over to my little friend Adeline’s house to meet her sweet and precious new baby sister, Amelie (Yancy and Jorge are absolutely dominating in the perfect girl name department, arent they!?) As I suspected, the Gonzalez family is now blessed with TWO adorable daughters, and Adeline could not be a more doting big sister to little Amelie. Here are some of my favorites from this sweet session!
We have been waiting for what feels like one thousand years for Kyle + Kaylin to finally have some babies! This year, they finally jumped on board and in December, welcomed sweet little baby Logan. Logan is pretty dang special. Not just because he is our friends’ first baby, but because I can remember sitting in an uber in New Orleans like FIVE years ago talking about how Kyle + Kaylin had gotten engaged and how we could not wait for them to join us in the chaotic world of parenting. They told us they had names picked out, but that they would never tell. (We were not even close to sober, by the way). I somehow just guessed LOGAN, and they sat there in shock that their secret chosen name for a boy OR a girl would be the first name to pop out of my mouth. I was sworn to secrecy, and for awhile was so good at keeping that promise that I forgot the conversation ever happened (again with the whole less than sober thing). Sometime later Kaylin reminded me that I already knew, and it came rushing back to me – from that point I guarded their secret name with my life! Anyway, Logan is here now, and he is even better than I imagined he could be! Here are some of my faves from his newborn portraits
I always love photographing people that I have personal relationships with. I have known this sweet family for about 3 years now, when Brittany and I started working together and became fast friends. We don’t work together anymore, but we have definitely stayed in close contact, and she is a member of one of my wine clubs (yes, I have multiple…and it is like book club with no reading ;)). I photographed her sweet daughter Josie at the hospital when she was born, and also photographed her family last winter for a holiday session. I was so happy to meet up with them again this year at Silver Lake Park in Haymarket, Virginia. Josie stole the show with her silly antics and Keegan did AMAZING with the chaos of the day. Their session took place on peak weekend for leaves, and the scenery did NOT disappoint! Here are some of my favorites:
I am so excited to be sharing so many of my favorite images from Lydia + Kevin’s November wedding here today! I feel like the days have been flying by ever since this wedding, and I have been so busy with the holiday season that I have very much neglected this space! Lydia first contacted me a few months ago, and let me know that she and her fiancee were set to have a very intimate wedding ceremony in November at the Kenmore Inn in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I often hear from potential clients that a ceremony is intimate, and will have anywhere from 40-50 guests, but Lydia + Kevin said intimate and MEANT it! They had a total of 13 people at their ceremony including them, myself, and the officiant! I loved that they chose to celebrate with only their families, and it made for a very sweet and romantic ceremony. They also hit the weather jackpot for a November wedding, because we had a beautiful and warm fall day, without rain! This year has been INCREDIBLY rainy, so the fact that there was no rain seemed like a miracle to me. Lydia + Kevin actually live in Colorado, and she did such a great job planning her day while living across the country. She had a real feel for the venue, and chose beautiful florals and attire to complement the ambiance, but my favorite part of the day was definitely the first look and just how happy and sweet Lydia + Kevin were – they were so obviously in love and ready to start their lives together, which always makes me feel so dang good! Here are some of my most favorites from the literally hundreds of images I shot that day!
The leaves in Northern Virginia never disappoint in the fall – it’s a real trick to try and determine when they will peak, as clients are frequently looking for colorful fall backgrounds for their portrait sessions. This year, the leaves peaked a bit later than normal, the first weekend in November, and OH MY GOD were they beautiful! Priya + Abhay were a couple of the lucky recipients of all the peak weekend glory, and it resulted in a colorful and romantic engagement session for the two of them. By now, the two of them are on their way to India for their marriage ceremony, which I am sure will be beautiful and special, as they will be surrounded by their closest family and friends. They both live here in the States, so I thought it was so sweet that they wanted to have an engagement portrait session before their wedding to commemorate their lives here as well. I met up with Priya + Abhay at my fave fall location, Silver Lake Park, in Haymarket, Virginia, and we wandered the grounds scouting all of the best spots. It has been a really rainy and gray year, so a lot of us photographers have been dealing with overcast skies and rescheduled shoots, so I was so happy when the weather was forecast to be gorgeous on the day of this session. The light ended up being so beautiful, and it reflected so well of this beautiful couple. Here are some of my favorites from our session!
Our besties are so close to welcoming a baby boy, and we could not be more excited! My husband (Zac) and Kyle go waaaaay back. All the way to elementary school, when they were neighbors and instant best friends. What’s even more funny is that Kaylin + I also go way back…to when she was in elementary school and I used to babysit her! It makes her sound VERY young and me sound VERY old, but really I was like 12 or 13 and she was 7 or 8, so only a few years age difference :).
When Kyle was turning 30, we planned a fun trip to New Orleans to celebrate. He surprised the heck out of Kaylin by proposing to her a few days before we left, at his own surprise birthday party! We were so excited and happy to go and celebrate and we had the BEST time. Thanks to the New Orleans open container laws, we were feeling really good one evening. I remember sitting in the back of an Uber, and we were talking about babies in general, and somehow we got on the subject of their future children and what their names would be. They said they had a name picked out that would work for a boy or a girl and that there was no WAY we could guess it. I guessed Logan and from the look on their faces, I knew I had guessed right! I was sworn to secrecy and actually forgot about the whole exchange (open containers, duh) until now, years later when they finally get pregnant, and are having a sweet baby boy, who will actually get to be named Logan.
I met up with Kyle + Kaylin a few weeks ago to document her cute baby bump and then a week later, we showered her and Logan with a Where the Wild Things Are-themed shower, and so today I am excited to share images from BOTH of these events with you!
