You guys. Even four months later, I am still pinching myself that I had the privilege to photograph this wedding!!! Rheanna + Pat set a date of September 21st for what was sure to be the wedding of the damn decade, and I was ALL IN. They chose to get married at Patrick’s family property in Catharpin, Virginia. Patrick grew up on this land, and it really is the most idyllic setting for a wedding. When it comes to variety in scenery, its got it all – woodland forestry, sweeping fields, a gorgeous barn, perfectly lit wooded areas, and a pond with the perfect amount of mossy growth on top. It is a photographer’s dream! Aside from all that, I knew that with Rheanna’s creative mind & Patrick’s woodworking ability, the event was going to be stunning and THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Every single table, wooden box, wooden sign, table covering or other wood element was BUILT BY THE GROOM WITH HIS OWN TWO HANDS. His expert craftsmanship was such a big part of the event, and I have never seen such a beautiful reception set up.
Happy Friday, friends! I am so excited to share Rheanna + Pat’s engagement portraits with you this afternoon! I actually went to high school with Rheanna + her brother, and it is always fun to see people you used to know all grown up with families and living life. I reconnected with Rheanna about a year ago, when I found out that she is pretty much the greatest eyelash and spray tan artist around. She keeps my lashes looking long and luscious, and for that I can’t thank her enough :). Seriously, though, she is very sweet and funny, and if you are interested in getting eyelash extensions, derma planing, or a spray tan, she is your girl! You can check out her facebook page (and rave reviews!) here, find her on instagram at @lashesbyrheanna, or go straight to book an appointment by clicking here. I always do classic lashes, and am so happy with them that I have become addicted to her, and go at least every month! Rheanna also offers lash parties, so you can even get a bunch of girls together for brunch and lashes, and its always a fun time!
I actually really met Patrick for the first time at the engagement session, but I already knew he was a nice guy and SUPER talented wood-worker. He makes so many gorgeous custom wood pieces. Rheanna & Pat also have the cutest little boy named Ryder, and although he didn’t necessarily want to have his photos taken on the day of the shoot, we still managed to get a couple of him :). I am so looking forward to this wedding in the fall – it sounds like it’ll be SUCH a fun event, taking place on Pat’s family land, which is also where we had the engagement sessions. The evening light on this property is SO beautiful, and there was so much variety in scenery. These portraits were taken in cold, dead January, so I can only imagine how stunning the property will look in the fall! Here are some of my faves!
I am so excited to be sharing so many of my favorite images from Lydia + Kevin’s November wedding here today! I feel like the days have been flying by ever since this wedding, and I have been so busy with the holiday season that I have very much neglected this space! Lydia first contacted me a few months ago, and let me know that she and her fiancee were set to have a very intimate wedding ceremony in November at the Kenmore Inn in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I often hear from potential clients that a ceremony is intimate, and will have anywhere from 40-50 guests, but Lydia + Kevin said intimate and MEANT it! They had a total of 13 people at their ceremony including them, myself, and the officiant! I loved that they chose to celebrate with only their families, and it made for a very sweet and romantic ceremony. They also hit the weather jackpot for a November wedding, because we had a beautiful and warm fall day, without rain! This year has been INCREDIBLY rainy, so the fact that there was no rain seemed like a miracle to me. Lydia + Kevin actually live in Colorado, and she did such a great job planning her day while living across the country. She had a real feel for the venue, and chose beautiful florals and attire to complement the ambiance, but my favorite part of the day was definitely the first look and just how happy and sweet Lydia + Kevin were – they were so obviously in love and ready to start their lives together, which always makes me feel so dang good! Here are some of my most favorites from the literally hundreds of images I shot that day!
On August 18th, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Carlos + Queen’s backyard wedding ceremony! I am always nervous going into a backyard wedding, because you never know what you’re going to get in terms of portrait locations and scenery. Luckily, Carlos + Queen have a beautiful home on a beautiful piece of property in Woodbridge, Virginia. I loved spending the evening with the Hewetts and their friends and family. It was so clear to me how much everyone loves them and wishes them well on their marriage. My favorite part of the event was probably all of the toasts. Traditionally, the best man, maid of honor, and a parent may make a toast at a wedding, but at THIS wedding, there was an endless line of toasting! The best man, maid of honor, siblings, ALL parents of both the bride and groom, and close friends all took their turn with the microphone to share anecdotes and a few words about Carlos & Queen. My favorite moment was when Carlos’s son took the mic and said “I’m just so happy.” It had to make his family feel so good and right to know that their children were wishing them well and happy about their union. Here are a few of my favorites from the day!
I had the absolute pleasure of not only going to Playa Mujeres, Mexico for our dear friends’ wedding at the end of May, and let me just tell you….I don’t know why everyone doesn’t get married in Mexico! Kyle + Kaylin are some of our oldest and best friends – my husband grew up next-door to Kyle, and get this – i BABYSAT Kaylin & her brother when we were all much younger. I know that makes me sound old, but truth be told, I was probably a little too young to be babysitting ;). Over the years, we have gone from friends to roommates, to travel buddies. I couldn’t have been more honored when Kaylin asked me to stand up with her at her wedding, and I was more than happy to bring my camera along for the journey. Here are just a few of my favorites from their big day:
Kyle + Kaylin are some of our oldest and besets friends! They are planning an AMAZING destination wedding in Playa Mujeres, Mexico for the upcoming summer, and we CANNOT WAIT TO GO! I talked (forced) Kyle + Kaylin into some engagement photos, and met up (kidnapped) with them at a local park that I love. Here are a few of my favorite shots:
Kelly & Jerry had a beautiful wedding at a beautiful vineyard in Delaplane, Virginia. It turned out to be a pretty gloomy and rainy day, but nobody let it get them down. The venue was stunning and the party was lively! Thank you to Courtney, of Courtney Anderson Photography for inviting me to second shoot this one with her – its always fun to hang with a friend at a beautiful event! Here are a few of my favorites:
I was lucky enough to be invited to second shoot the dreamiest wedding ever, with my favorite photographer friend, Ali of Freebird Imagery! Ali is the gold standard when it comes to photography, so to be invited to shoot alongside her is not only incredibly flattering, but also a fantastic learning experience. Eleanor & John were married on her family’s farm in Catlett, Virginia, and not only was the land stunning, but every detail of the wedding was so beautifully thought out and personal. Here are a few of my favorites from the day:
