Happy Friday, friends! I am so excited to share Rheanna + Pat’s engagement portraits with you this afternoon! I actually went to high school with Rheanna + her brother, and it is always fun to see people you used to know all grown up with families and living life. I reconnected with Rheanna about a year ago, when I found out that she is pretty much the greatest eyelash and spray tan artist around. She keeps my lashes looking long and luscious, and for that I can’t thank her enough :). Seriously, though, she is very sweet and funny, and if you are interested in getting eyelash extensions, derma planing, or a spray tan, she is your girl! You can check out her facebook page (and rave reviews!) here, find her on instagram at @lashesbyrheanna, or go straight to book an appointment by clicking here. I always do classic lashes, and am so happy with them that I have become addicted to her, and go at least every month! Rheanna also offers lash parties, so you can even get a bunch of girls together for brunch and lashes, and its always a fun time!
I actually really met Patrick for the first time at the engagement session, but I already knew he was a nice guy and SUPER talented wood-worker. He makes so many gorgeous custom wood pieces. Rheanna & Pat also have the cutest little boy named Ryder, and although he didn’t necessarily want to have his photos taken on the day of the shoot, we still managed to get a couple of him :). I am so looking forward to this wedding in the fall – it sounds like it’ll be SUCH a fun event, taking place on Pat’s family land, which is also where we had the engagement sessions. The evening light on this property is SO beautiful, and there was so much variety in scenery. These portraits were taken in cold, dead January, so I can only imagine how stunning the property will look in the fall! Here are some of my faves!
Oh, the Bahamas. It feels like such a lifetime ago that we went on the most fun trip to Nassau, when in reality, it has only been a short two months since we returned. My best friend, Becca & her mama, WON THE TRIP on Ellen’s 12 Days of Giveaways. Isn’t that nuts!? Who gets to say that Ellen freaking Degeneres gifted them a trip to a tropical island and ten thousand star resort?!! My bestie, thats who! My husband and I were the luckiest of all people, because Becca’s sweet and generous as heck mother gifted us her trip. WHAT?!!!? I don’t know what I will ever do to repay her for her generosity, but I have a few ideas on how to start. Anyway, we stayed at the most beautiful resort, which is pretty new, called Baha Mar (linked here). They had about 1000 pools, a casino, 364312 restaurants, and really gorgeous accommodations. I am exaggerating a bit on the pools and restaurants, but it was really a lot! The resort has converted a bunch of airstreams into the cutest food trucks on the beach, has FLAMINGOS for you to admire, and even a sanctuary with a grotto where you can also admire sting rays, nurse sharks, and sea turtles. I can’t even describe how cool that was. We spent our days by the beach and pool, and our afternoons walking next-door to the Daiquiri Shack, which was always well worth it. Who knew that a plum daiquiri was the best flavor ever? You are welcome. Our bahamas dream trip lasted from Sunday to Friday, and I really wanted to gift Becca + Luke a nice set of portraits from our trip, so by Wednesday evening, we had been around the resort enough for me to pick out some lovely portrait locations, and we set out to create some beautiful images. I loved how many different natural backgrounds we were able to get – it really looks like we were at at least 4 different locations, but these were all taken on resort. Here are a few of my favorites!!!
The leaves in Northern Virginia never disappoint in the fall – it’s a real trick to try and determine when they will peak, as clients are frequently looking for colorful fall backgrounds for their portrait sessions. This year, the leaves peaked a bit later than normal, the first weekend in November, and OH MY GOD were they beautiful! Priya + Abhay were a couple of the lucky recipients of all the peak weekend glory, and it resulted in a colorful and romantic engagement session for the two of them. By now, the two of them are on their way to India for their marriage ceremony, which I am sure will be beautiful and special, as they will be surrounded by their closest family and friends. They both live here in the States, so I thought it was so sweet that they wanted to have an engagement portrait session before their wedding to commemorate their lives here as well. I met up with Priya + Abhay at my fave fall location, Silver Lake Park, in Haymarket, Virginia, and we wandered the grounds scouting all of the best spots. It has been a really rainy and gray year, so a lot of us photographers have been dealing with overcast skies and rescheduled shoots, so I was so happy when the weather was forecast to be gorgeous on the day of this session. The light ended up being so beautiful, and it reflected so well of this beautiful couple. Here are some of my favorites from our session!
I met up with Andrew + Amanda at my favorite location of all time last weekend for a sweet engagement session. I always say that Silver Lake Regional Park is my favorite location, and aside from my front yard, it really really is. I mean, its got everything – forestry, a lake, a bride, long romantic grass, big open fields, cool and interesting trees…you name it, and Silver Lake has it. I just love that I can have a single 1-2 hour portrait session in ONE location and get so many different settings and varied scenery. Also, its so beautiful year round…in the spring it is green and there are so many florals throughout the park, and in the summer everything is so GREEN. In the fall….its like a freakin painting with all the gorgeous foliage. I can’t even adequately describe how beautiful the backdrop of the wooded areas are when the leaves peak each year…it is really unbelievable. Needless to say, I was so excited when Amanda reached out and said that she didn’t really have a set location in mind for their engagement portraits and asked for recommendations. I was so happy to recommend my fave place, and was excited when she agreed that it would fit her vision for her engagement portraits.
Amanda + Andrew were the sweetest couple. They were so clearly in love and excited about starting their future together. They are getting married in Andrew’s home state of Illinois next summer, and I am sure that everything will come together beautifully. Amanda & Andrew both are from out of state, which is so common here in the DC Area. They met here and have started to put down roots and build a life together. I was honored to be able to capture this very important time in their lives, and am SO excited to share some of my favorites below!
Recently, I was able to meet up with Trevor & MJ at one of my most favorite locations here in Northern Virginia to take some engagement photos! We lucked out and not only had stunning light and sunset for the portrait session, but also had an unseasonably GORGEOUS day, with temps in the upper 70s and basically no humidity, which for Virginia in August is pretty much unheard of! Trevor & MJ are recently engaged, and plan to be married in 2019 – they are both students at George Mason University, finishing up degree programs (MJ is earning her PhD – smart lady!), and are settling into life as an engaged couple. Trevor brought his pickup truck with him to the shoot, as it is really special to him, so we had some fun setting up some shots with the truck as well! These two are so sweet with each other, and I was honored to try and capture some of the love and emotion that is so clearly apparent between the two. Here are a few of my favorite images from our time together:
Kyle + Kaylin are some of our oldest and besets friends! They are planning an AMAZING destination wedding in Playa Mujeres, Mexico for the upcoming summer, and we CANNOT WAIT TO GO! I talked (forced) Kyle + Kaylin into some engagement photos, and met up (kidnapped) with them at a local park that I love. Here are a few of my favorite shots:
