One of my most favorite little babes turned ONE last Friday! You might recognize Miss Brinley from this family session I recently did with her people, or even this little hospital session I did when she was born. Brinley’s parents are longtime friends of ours, and our youngest son is the same age as their son, Ryland, so it has been really fun going through this season of life together. Megan is also an incredibly talented cake artist, and if you are located in Northern Virginia and are ever in need of a beautiful AND delicious cake, you should check out Haute Cakes at her website or Facebook page. So…I showed up at Brinley’s house ready to watch her dig into her beautiful mini-cake. Megan had set up the cutest little area for her to get messy, and we were READY….except Brinley decided that she didn’t like cake! WHAT!!? Not only is cake delicious, but her own mother is a cake baker! We tried and tried to get her to eat the tiny cake, but she wasn’t having any of that. She was seriously frowning and pouting at the cake! She was, however, very into balloons and spent a fair amount of time loving on those. I am happy to report that she did come to her senses in time for her birthday party and decided she did like cake, but was unwilling to perform for the camera. Even without a major smash, we did manage to get some adorable shots of Brinley in her tutu – here are a few of my favorites:
I met up with the Young family at one of the coolest parks in Loudoun County, Virginia. We met at Claude Moore Park, which, if you are familiar with the area, also has a museum on site called the Heritage Farm Museum, which is really fun for littler kids, with a nice large selection of ride-on tractors, a fake store, chickens & eggs to collect, and a fake cow for milking. I took my older son to the museum a few times in his toddler years, as he was pretty tractor obsessed and it was a HIT. I actually hadnt spent too much time on the grounds of the park, which includes a lake and trails, and some really beautiful places to take photos, so it was nice to meet with Misty, Chris & Evan at the park and walk around. Evan is ten years old, and had so many great ideas about where we should take photos. He also acted as our guide, having been to many summer camps at the park. The light was beautiful and it was a nice day, which made for some lovely images.
I met up with the Bitter family on what had to be the coldest day we have had this fall! It was seriously 30 degrees outside! I am so glad that Laura + Blake packed up their three girls and brought them to our shoot anyway, though. I think the cold made for an extra snuggly family, and I love how closely huddled together they are in these photos. The light for their evening family session was so gorgeous, and the girls (Charlotte, Evie + Claire) were such troopers on such a cold evening! Baby Claire didn’t whine or cry ONE BIT, and she is just 9 months old! Her mama said she has been such an easygoing little lady, and I totally believe her! Here are a few of my favorites from the evening:
I had the pleasure of catching up with the Surface Family at Silver Lake Park in Haymarket, VA over the weekend for a sweet fall mini-session! I have known Jeness for awhile now, as we live in the same town and have a bunch of friends in common, so we frequently run into each other at gatherings. I was so excited when she reached out looking to book a fall session, and was more than happy to tack a mini session onto another longer session on Saturday. Jeness & Zach are the cutest couple, and they have an even cuter 7 month old little boy named Braden. He was such a trooper with the cold temps, and only protested when we sat him in the leaves! He even let me hold him and helped me photograph his mama and daddy alone for a few minutes! He is a natural talent ;). The light on the day of the session was so stunning, and the leaves are still hanging in there, even though I think they actually must have peaked last weekend (see previous post for proof of crazy colorful leaves – both sessions were in the same location!). Here are a few of my favorites from my time with the Surface family:
Last weekend was almost SUCH a bust! I had so many fall family sessions scheduled, and it poured from Saturday afternoon all the way through to sunday morning. I moved a bunch of client sessions around, but the Magnani family wins the award for bravery, as they were daring enough to meet me on Sunday afternoon. The sun was not shining and the ground was very wet, but OH MY GOD were the leaves amazing. Some of the photos from our session look like they are taken in front of one of those fall leaf backdrops they would use in a portrait studio! Tom + Nicole are the sweetest couple, and they have three little boys named Dylan, Luca + Mateo. Dylan is five and in kindergarten, Luca is turning three any day now, and sweet little Mateo is 7 months old! I swear Nicole must be part angel and part warrior, because she makes being a mama to three boys look so easy! I was so impressed by how well they all behaved, and how ready they were to have their picture taken. I am excited to share a few of my favorites from a dreary day with stunning leaves – how cute is the one of Mateo kissing his mama’s cheek!?
A few months ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Megan + Chris to take some maternity photos in Leesburg, Virginia. I was so excited when Megan contacted me to request some newborn photos of their new son, and not-so-patiently counted down until his arrival. Christopher Joseph (CJ) was about a week past due, and gave his mama a really hard time trying to be born. Megan handled it like a rock star, and just a week after bringing him home is up and moving around and lifting her TEN POUND baby like a champ! I have a special place in my heart for babies born at 9 lbs and over, and an even more special place for ones that come late. Both of my boys were past due (5 & 11 days) and were 9 pounders. As with every new life session, we were on CJ’s clock for this session, and I am happy to report that for the last half hour of the session he was a dream baby. His grandfather showed up at about the same time, so I am thinking he just was wanting to show off for a larger audience ;). Megan pulled out a ton of special keepsakes for the photo session, including a custom made quilt for CJ by one of his grandmothers, a hand crocheted vintage-style pooh bear, and even her dad’s baby blanket! We were able to capture a few photos of her dad with CJ wrapped in his baby blanket, which I thought was really special. Here are a few of my favorites from our time together:
Congratulations, Megan + Chris on a perfect baby boy!
